This fine and true pair of 19th-century candlesticks is a superb example of the refined aesthetic and masterful craftsmanship that characterized the Directoire revival. The Directoire style (1795–1799) represented a pivotal moment in French decorative arts, marking a transitional phase between the opulent curves of the Louis XVI style and the more severe, martial classicism of the Empire style.
